10/4/2019: Weekend Traffic Advisory

A stage of construction (toll plaza slab installations) will occur along the Newark Bay - Hudson County Extension (NB-HCE), starting at 8:00 PM on Friday, October 4, 2019 and lasting until 5:00 AM on Monday, October 7, 2019. Over this period, the following will be closed along the Eastbound roadway:

  • Right lane of the Eastbound (HWE) roadway (two lanes remain open)

  • Liberty Science Center Ramp

  • Toll lanes 1-4

It is anticipated that traffic impacts will be moderate to severe during peak travel periods, typically 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM Saturday and Sunday.

Variable message signs to alert motorists of the construction will be placed along the Eastbound Roadway one week in advance of the planned construction start date.  

Motorists can call 511 from any phone from a hands-free device (Listen for the initial voice prompt and ask for traffic conditions. Description of New Traffic Pattern:  A stage of construction (toll plaza slab installations) will occur along the Newark Bay - Hudson County Extension (NB-HCE), starting Friday night, October 4, 2019 at 8:00 PM and lasting until Monday morning, October 7, 2019 at 5:00 AM. Over this period, the following will be closed along the Eastbound roadway:

  • Right lane of the Eastbound (HWE) roadway (two lanes remain open)

  • Liberty Science Center Ramp

  • Toll lanes 1-4

Proposed Start Date of New Traffic Pattern:  The new traffic pattern is scheduled to be installed Friday, October 4, 2019 at 8:00 PM, and be in place until Monday, October 7, 2019 at 5:00 AM.

Anticipated Traffic Impacts:  It is anticipated that traffic impacts will be moderate to severe during peak travel periods, typically 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM Saturday and Sunday.

Other Comments:  NJTA will advise motorists by Highway Advisory Radio and Overhead Variable Message Signs at Newark Bay - Hudson County Extension Mileposts N1.1 and N4.4.  Coordination with TRANSCOM, PANYNJ, local jurisdictions, and NJDOT is ongoing.
