11/29/2017: Traffic Advisory

A stage of bridge deck reconstruction and miscellaneous improvements will occur in both the Eastbound and Westbound directions of the Newark Bay - Hudson County Extension (NB-HCE) from the Interchange 14C Toll Plaza to Milepost N7.3 (over Christopher Columbus Dr.) on the Eastbound roadway and to Milepost N7.7 (over 9th Street) on the Westbound roadway starting on 12/16/2017 and lasting until 5/18/2018.  Over this time period, traffic lanes in both directions of the NB-HCE roadway will be shifted.  The Westbound roadway lanes and Merseles Street On-Ramp will be shifted to the right.  One lane of the Eastbound roadway will be diverted to the Westbound roadway and will not have access to the Columbus Drive Off-Ramp, the remaining two Eastbound lanes will divide at the Interchange 14C Toll Plaza and will converge prior to the Columbus Drive Off-Ramp.  No shoulders will be present, but emergency pull-off locations will be provided.  On-site wrecker service will be provided.

It is anticipated that traffic impacts will be moderate during peak travel periods until motorist become accustomed and adjust to the new traffic pattern.

Variable message signs to alert motorists of the construction will be placed along the Eastbound Roadway at Mileposts N4.7 and N5.9 and along the Westbound Roadway at Milepost N8.1 one week in advance of the planned construction start date.

Motorists can call 511 from any phone from a hands-free device (Listen for the initial voice prompt and ask for traffic conditions. Motorists can ask for a specific Highway, City, or even a point of interest).  Information regarding this project is posted on our web site at www.state.nj.us/turnpike under “What’s New”.  Residents of Jersey City / Hudson County can monitor traffic conditions by accessing Turnpike webcams at http://www.njta.com/travel-resources/camera-list, and http://www.511nj.org/cameras.aspx.  Motorists can also download the SafeTrip App for the latest traffic Advisories.
