5/31/2019: Traffic Advisory

A stage of toll plaza pavement reconstruction and miscellaneous improvements will occur in both the Eastbound and Westbound directions of the Newark Bay - Hudson County Extension (NB-HCE) at the Interchange 14C Toll Plaza starting on 05/31/2019 and lasting until 06/03/2019. Over this time period, one lane along the Eastbound roadway will be closed approaching the toll plaza (normal configuration is two lanes), four toll plaza lanes in the Eastbound direction (normal configuration is 7 toll lanes) and one toll plaza lanes in the Westbound direction (normal configuration is 5 toll lanes) of the NB-HCE roadway will also be closed.

It is anticipated that traffic impacts will be moderate to severe during peak travel periods, typically 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM Saturday and Sunday.

Long-Term Traffic Lane Shift: May 2019 Traffic Advisory

A stage of bridge deck reconstruction and miscellaneous improvements will occur in both the Eastbound and Westbound directions of the Newark Bay - Hudson County Extension (NB-HCE) from the Interchange 14C Toll Plaza to Milepost N7.3 (over Christopher Columbus Dr.) on the Eastbound roadway and to Milepost N7.7 (over 9th Street) on the Westbound roadway starting on 5/6/2019 and lasting for approximately four (4) months, until September 2019. Over this time period, traffic lanes in both directions of the NB-HCE roadway will be shifted. The Westbound roadway lanes and Merseles Street On-Ramp will be shifted to the right. One lane of the Eastbound roadway will be diverted to the Westbound roadway and will not have access to the Columbus Drive Off-Ramp, the remaining two Eastbound lanes will be shifted left at the Interchange 14C Toll Plaza and the Columbus Drive Off-Ramp will be reduced to one lane (normal Off-Ramp configuration is two lanes). No shoulders will be present, but emergency pull-off locations will be provided. On-site wrecker service will be provided.

It is anticipated that traffic impacts will be moderate during peak travel periods until motorist become accustomed and adjust to the new traffic pattern. 

Variable message signs to alert motorists of the construction will be placed along the Eastbound Roadway at Mileposts N4.7 and N5.9 and along the Westbound Roadway at Milepost N8.2 one week in advance of the planned construction start date.

5/3/2019: Weekend Traffic Advisory

Construction will occur in the Eastbound direction of the Newark Bay - Hudson County Extension (NB-HCE) from Milepost N5.1 to Milepost N6.0 (14C toll plaza), starting on 5/3/2019 and lasting until 5/6/2019. Over this period, the Eastbound (HWE) roadway will be reduced to one lane approaching the 14C toll plaza (normal configuration is two lanes) and toll lanes 5-7 will be closed. Toll lanes 8 and 9 along the Westbound (HEW) roadway at the 14C toll plaza will also be closed.

It is anticipated that traffic impacts will be moderate to severe during peak weekend travel periods, specifically 9:00AM - 9:00PM on Saturday and Sunday.

4/26/2019: Weekend Traffic Advisory (Westbound)

Newark Bay Bridge (Interchange 14-14C):

Eastbound:  No closures scheduled.

Westbound:  Westbound Interchange 14C – 14A: Traffic will be reduced to one lane from 8P Friday to 5A Monday between milepost N6.0 – N3.3 (Westbound Ramp to 14A). This work has been coordinated with westbound Pulaski Skyway, which will remain open during peak periods Saturday and Sunday. This closing is necessary to address high priority and emergent bridge deck repairs in the westbound travel lanes. In the event of rain Friday night, this closing will be installed early Saturday morning.

Jersey City (Jersey Avenue - Interchange 14C) – The New Jersey Turnpike Authority advises of weekend construction on the Hudson County Extension eastbound approaching Interchange 14B to east of Interchange 14C in Jersey City, the left lane will be closed from 8 p.m., Friday, April 26th, until 5 a.m., Monday, April 29th. During the same hours the left side of the 14C Toll Plaza will closed. Motorist can expect delays during peak periods on the weekend and should allow for extra travel time
