+ Where is the project located?

This project is located in Jersey City, NJ from the NJTA 14C toll plaza to Jersey Avenue. Maps of the project's extent can be seen on the Project Location page.

+ Why is the project needed?

As the nation’s highway systems wear with age, repairs and reconstruction of the roadways and bridges are necessary to ensure that they are preserved for future generations.

+ When will construction take place?

Construction on the first phase, which was to rehabilitate the Westbound structure, started in late 2012 and was completed in September 2016. Construction for this phase, which is to rehabilitate the Eastbound structure to the Columbus Drive exit, started in August 2017 and will be completed in late 2020.

+ What will the new improvements include?

The Eastbound bridge deck is being replaced in multiple phases along this one mile stretch of viaduct from Exit 14C to the Columbus Drive exit (mile posts 6.0 – 7.0). The scope of work also involves structural strengthening and repairs, structural steel repainting, lighting and drainage improvements, and approach roadway repairs of the three five viaduct structures and two ramp structures located within the project limits.

This project is self funded by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.
